Pet Emergency Group’s tax exempt status has been temporarily suspended. Please see below for detailed explanation.
1. Why has Pet Emergency Group’s tax-exempt status been temporarily suspended? Due to delays in filing our 990 tax forms we ended up on an automatic suspension list.
2. What steps are being taken to resolve this issue? We have already fulfilled the IRS requirements for reinstatement and have filed all required documentation. We anticipate the reinstatement of our tax-exempt status within three to six months.
3. How did this occur? Pet Emergency Group received its tax exempt status in January of 2024. Our approval was backdated to December of 2021. We missed the requirement that we needed to file individual 990’s for all three years even though we were fiscally sponsored by another organization. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our supporters and donors.
4. How does it affect my donation? The suspension was backdated to May 15, 2024. Any donations made before May 15, 2024 are not affected at all. Contributions made after this date are not currently tax-deductible. However, once our tax-exempt status is reinstated, it will be retroactive to May 15, 2024 ensuring all donations you have made in 2024 will be tax deductible.
5. Does the tax exemption situation impact Pet Emergency Groups initiatives? This status does not hinder our commitment to fulfilling our mission. We remain steadfast in our efforts to build, grow, and sustain after-hours emergency care on the Olympic Peninsula.
6. Can I make a donation to Pet Emergency Group right now? Yes, you can continue to donate at events and on our website, but please note donations are not tax deductible until we are reinstated. However, since our reinstatement will be backdated you will still be able to claim any donations in 2024 if you itemize deductions on your taxes.
